You would be forgiven for thinking that our newest recruit had antipodean blood in him, as a brief look through his private photograph album would suggest the lifestyle of a typical beach loving Aussie backpacker on a rites-of-passage pilgrimage to Britain. The tan lines, sun-bleached crown and the lean sporty frame, often clutching a surfboard complete the picture, but 25-year-old Richie was actually born in the UK.
Outdoor Boy
Richie's natural affinity with outdoor life and the sea in particular, is probably due to his parents moving to Spain shortly after he was born. This energetic, sporty lad enjoyed a childhood of relative freedom bathed in warm Mediterranean sunshine, but when the family decided to return to Blighty thirteen years later to settle in Cornwall, the contrast of climes proved to be a bit of a chilly shock. Furthermore English school life and the need to suppress his natural exuberance proved to be a very tough task indeed.
Cheeky Charmer
Richie says he remembers being a well behaved schoolboy while growing up in Spain but back in England the temptation to disrupt the class in the small village school was too much. Perhaps this was due to the onset of puberty and being surrounded by pretty females that he couldn't resist chatting up during lessons; he confesses to still having a penchant for 'naughty-minded' English girls. He admits too that as he discovered alcohol his behaviour deteriorated, but because he was bright and made all his grades he says it was impossible for the teachers to expel him. Being a real cutie and a charmer didn't hurt too much either.

Cornwall is a Mecca for British surfers and with the beach on his doorstep Richie as he turned fifteen, finally found an outdoor pursuit that he could embrace passionately and giving him some direction in life. By the time he was eighteen having following many competitions, Richie was so accomplished a surfer that he was now attracting sponsorship and given the opportunity to travel the world to see the kind of places (and women) he had only dreamed about. Having lost his cherry at a painfully early age to a girl two years his senior under an olive tree one hot sweaty night in Spain, Richie had now developed a taste for slightly older girls who he seemed to have no difficulty pulling.
